“While the world's population tripled in the 20th century, the use of renewable water resources has grown six-fold. Within the next fifty years, the world population will increase by another 40 to 50 %. This population growth - coupled with industrialization and urbanization - will result in an increasing demand for water and will have serious consequences on the environment.” www.worldwatercouncil.org
Solving a global problem can be a daunting task for the most experienced design team. The scope and complexity of a big problem can push the
limits of understanding when working in isolation. Today designers are being invited to collaborate with diverse teams to solve complex problems that need a divergent, big picture approach.
This workshop will introduce the process of design thinking and focus on the ‘building-up’ of ideas to reframe a complex issue. Together we will view the movie FLOW (For the Love of Water), Irena Salina’s award-winning documentary investigation into what experts label the most important political and environmental issue of the 21st Century - The World Water Crisis.
We will brainstorm, visualize wild ideas, make prototypes, build on the ideas of others, play the role of the user, and reframe what seems like an “unsolvable” problem.
Innovation will fuel the outcome of this workshop. Design thinking will be our catalyst.
