Kamahl Santamaria has over 10 years experience in television news throughout the Asia-Pacific region, and now the Middle East. Since joining Al Jazeera English he has anchored numerous major breaking news events including the execution of Saddam Hussein, the US campus shooting at Virginia Tech, the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, Israel and Hezbollah's prisoner swap, and the bombing of Islamabad's Marriott Hotel. He also fronted the channel's exclusive coverage from Harare of the 2008 Zimbabwean elections - the only international broadcaster to be allowed into the country - and returned to neighbouring South Africa when Zimbabwe's historic power-sharing deal was signed.
Kamahl started his career as a news and sports reporter in his native New Zealand, working on TV3's flagship nightly news show 3 News. He was also a regular sports bulletin producer. Kamahl then moved to Australia, where he established and ran the Melbourne bureau for Sky News Australia – appearing on the channel's daily Sky Business Report as a business correspondent and presenter.
